Better late than never: since DPC 09 is coming up this week, this is the ideal occasion for a review of the 2008 edition.
The trip to Amsterdam started off in Gent where I traveled along with Felix De Vliegher & Steve Roelens. Comfortably cruising along the Belgian & Dutch motorways, we where looking for some good times and some expert opinions on common PHP topics. In retrospect, we got both in spades! Continue reading
Better late the never: I finally put the slides of my presentation called “CLI, the other SAPI”. I did this talk some time ago at the PHPBelgium user group meeting which took place in the COMBELL offices in Gent.
As some of you might have noticed: my blog series “CLI, the other SAPI” is actually based on this talk. There are still some episodes in the making, but you can have sneak preview of what’s yet to come by checking the slides.
A large portion of the presentation contains information on process control. Some people advised me to make a separate presentation on that topic. I might consider that, but in the mean time this is the result:
Next Wednesday, PHPBelgium is having another user group meeting. This spring edition takes place in Gent again and will feature 2 talks including mine on command line PHP called CLI, the other SAPI. Continue reading
Recently I figured out there’s a game called Seven Things where someone tags you on his blog and asks you to share seven things that people might not know about you. Playful but cool. My main man felixdv tagged me in his post so I’m honored to share some Thijs trivia.
I’ve been adopting the Straight Edge lifestyle for over 12 years now.
I grew up in a little Belgian town called Diksmuide
I’ve studied Latin for 6 years
I learned ASP before learning PHP
Let’s tag some crucial dudes
This isn’t such an easy task because a lot of people are already tagged. Still … the people I’ll tag truly deserve it:
Chris Ramakers: because he knows his PHP stuff, because he is a very nice guy and a good client of mine. He’s actually chief of technology at Inventis.
Steve Roelens: because he’s a full blown party animal, a PHP developer at bSeen and also a good client of mine
Brecht Ryckaert: because he knows a hell of a lot about EEEPC’s, because he’s in my team and because I know he’ll become a grade-A support engineer in no time.
Paul Delbar: because he’s a LAMP guru, a truly phenomenal speaker and a down-to-earth guy. And you might have guessed: he’s a good client of mine. Did I mention he owns Delius?
Marcello Duarte: I don’t really know him that well, but I sat next to him during the workshops at DPC 08. He’s an easygoing guy and apparently he’s the Scrum master at IBuildings (so I’ve heard)
Stijn Claerhout: one of the fastest thinking, hardest working dudes on the planet earth. He’s a Debian addict and I’m proud to call him my colleague. I forgot to mention he’s COMBELL’s System manager
Jan Raedschelders: because he’s the co-owner of a lovely webdevelopment company called Inventis and because he is the single most hospitable guy in the galaxy. He’s also one of my favorite clients
